Q: If you had to redesign the Offshore and build it from scratch, what would you change?

 

Octavio Garcia: When that piece was created, it was so extreme. Finding a new context for it is what we?re doing now. The past two years have been incredible. We re-evaluated the piece. Its dimensions, proportions, materials?it?s reason for existing. In the near future, you?ll be seeing new stuff for the Offshore. More than a facelift. It will be re-engineered.

 

Q: Can you tell us about new materials you?re currently interested in?

 

Octavio Garcia: Ceramet. It?s a material derived from ceramic technology, mixing metal with ceramic. We?ve just introduced it in a new Pride of Mexico Royal Oak Offshore. It?s completely scratchproof.

 

Q: What type of watches to you like?

 

Giulio Papi: I like large but flat watches. I see future trends going forward with larger and flatter watches, similar to flat panel televisions.

 

Q: What new projects are you working on at the moment?

 

Giulio Papi: We are working on larger and flatter simple calibers with the AP Escapement. We are also working on developing an integrated chronograph movement, which we?ve just started.
