The iconic Nautilus design, stainless steel case, integrated bracelet and two highly practical complications create one of the manufacture's most impressive modern sports watches. Reference 5990/1A was introduced in 2014. Patek Philippe combined the Travel Time complication with a flyback chronograph while preserving the unmistakable architecture of the Nautilus collection. The black dial is undoubtedly one of the highlights. It features the signature horizontal Nautilus embossing together with a subtle bright-to-dark gradation towards the outer edge. Consequently, its appearance changes constantly depending on the surrounding light. Depending on the angle, the dial can shift from deep black through different shades of grey and even warmer, almost brown tones. It is one of those finishes that looks considerably more impressive in person than in photographs. Despite the number of complications, the dial remains beautifully balanced. An analog date display sits at 12 o'clock, while the 60-minute chronograph counter is positioned at 6 o'clock. In addition, separate apertures display day and night for both local and home time. The Travel Time system uses two centrally mounted hour hands. The solid hand displays local time, while the skeletonized hand indicates home time. Furthermore, local time can be adjusted forward or backward in one-hour increments using the correctors positioned on the left side of the case. At the same time, the watch features a fully integrated flyback chronograph. Therefore, the timing sequence can be reset and restarted immediately without first stopping the chronograph. Inside beats the in-house Patek Philippe Calibre CH 28-520 C FUS. The automatic movement combines a traditional column wheel with a disk clutch. Moreover, it offers between 45 and 55 hours of power reserve and operates at 4 Hz. The movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback. Highlights include the central 21k gold rotor, Gyromax balance and Spiromax hairspring. Naturally, the movement carries the Patek Philippe Seal. The stainless steel case measures 40.5 mm between 10 and 4 o'clock. Despite the complexity of the movement, it retains the distinctive proportions of the Nautilus. In addition, this generation offers water resistance to 120 metres. The integrated stainless steel bracelet combines satin-finished surfaces with polished details. As a result, it beautifully emphasises the architecture of the case while remaining exceptionally comfortable on the wrist.
