Micky
What do you think? I have been going to photographic exhibitions ,and the number of photographs that have been heavily retouched and reworked is huge,to the extent that in my opinion some pictures stop being photographs but some type of photoillustration.... When does a photograph become an illustration?
gougy
Photo or illustration? As a matter of fact it still is a picture As a deffinition - we may call it collage and I do not like "photos" that had been altered by objects or shapes that have not been photographed but drawn. Othervise "software tunning" is similar to developing on a film.
Micky
....they are,of course pictures......,but the question is,when the retouching, highlights, lowlights, harder edges etc,etc.... the things that are more than what was possible with film development and dramatically change the image make it into an illustration? Where is the borderline? We give the label to this image ,photo, but is it?
gougy
Imho it is photo - after developmentAs I wrote above - I do not like altering in terms of drawing or importing something that was not photographed but othervise I consider this as "using advanced filtres and so much better films and chemistry" than actually availiable (but who knows if some kind of multi-layer film could have been invented if digital photography had not arrived) .After all it is kind of "personal touch" every creator gives to the picture. Someones style is preffered from other, all are made for viewing pleasure I am writing this not knowing how to work with photoshop or any advanced programe (layering etc..) but still the RAW vs. final picture difference is kind of cool (example Before/After - this particular picture had to be made with long exposure, several angles of multiple flashes so not easy to achieve correct WB and other parametres, thats where digital development comes handy Edited July 15, 2014 by gougy
