Dear Prim specialists,

please excuse my ignorance , but I wonder if someone can tell me what generally happened regarding the numbering of Pre-Revolution Prim watches? ie What was , what was not numbered on the back of watches? Also if the serial number numbers do not match on the watch, is that a problem?

I am really enjoying collecting vintage Prim, but my problem is that my Czech is too poor to follow the Prim discussions in Czech!!

Thank you in advance

Best Wishes

Micky

Hi Micky, I find your question rather confusing - especially the part about mismatching serial numbers. AFAIK, there are NO serial numbers on pre-1989 Prim movements (someone correct me if I am wrong), while SOME models have a number imprinted on the bottom lid. So, what exactly do you mean by "serial numbers do not match on the watch"? If there is only one number (if any), there is nothing to match :-)

Thanks for the reply,

well I may be wrong but I have seen numbering on the movement. The mismatching I was referring to was the numbering on the watch back and the movement.I could be wrong of course.....

As far as I know, you can find only the number of calibre on the movement base plate (under the balance). This is mostly two digits number followed by dot and the third number like for example "68.3". The first part "68" refers to calibre 68 and the second part "3" refers to technical modification (version) of the movement. The younger the movement, the higher number. The highest value after dot is 4 (i think). These movements have no decorations and are often considered to be less valuable (some modification were done due to "cutting costs"). Sometimes, you can find diferent numbering on the base plate e.g, "TYP 011". This comes from older ages before the regular calibre 50.

Only predicative value numbers are on Prim Orlik modified cal. 50 and Prim Air Force Automatic cal. 96, IMHO.

Prim Air Force should be numbered up to 3000 and pattern must have six digits, like 000788 or 002693, etc (except few pieces for a civilian retail).

Prim Orlik has two numbers, first is allways 65, what means production year and then serial number of watches, like 65 220.
