sjo
Hello, Firstly I would like to introduce myself and apologise for my lack of expertise in the Czech language. I'm from the UK but I have been living and working in Prague for the last year or so. As my stay in Czech Republic is only a temporary one I wanted to buy a watch to remind me of my time here. After scanning the internet I found and won a Prim Sport 1st gen on German Ebay. I really like the style of the watch but it seems to need quite a bit of work. It runs but the whole movement does not seem to be secure in the case, also it seems to 'miss' from time to time when I wind it (I guess because of wear). Luckily for me I found the email address of Jakub Sivek and he directed me to this website. Jakub also gave me an email contact for Prim themselves and suggested that they could perform an expensive but very good restoration. To be honest I am in two minds - whether to have the restoration done and effectively have a new watch or to take the watch to a local watchmaker and perhaps just have it cleaned and 'fixed' but not fully restored. So I am after some advice from Czech watch experts. Do you guys think the full Prim restore is best or do you think a trip to a local watchmaker could give good results? Also on the subject of 'local watchmakers' do you guys have any recommendations in the Prague area (ideally someone who speaks some English). I have a Seiko 009 and a Damasko DA36 that I need to get adjusted also! Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers Steve

Viktor
Hi Steve, if you want to wear the watch regularly, go for a complete overhaul in the ELTON/PRIM company. The old brass chromium plated case will not look good enough whatever you do with it. Here is an example of my factory refurbished 1st generation Sport in a stainless steel case: If you just want to have a reminder for your stay in Prague and keep it mostly in a watchbox, than a standard service and maybe a change of glass should do. To find an English speaking watchmaker could be a problem, though. You could try Mr. Jaroslav Moucka from the following link, apart from being a watchmaker he seems to be a translator as well. http://www.timetip.cz/html/firma.php?id=1 Enjoy your Czech watch. boo-beek
Wow, first foreigner on Chronomag Forum Welcome! I think so that complete restoration in Elton / Prim is the best way how to make your watches wearable and long-lasting. Anyway if you're planning to come to Prague or just to send watches somewhere to fix them or whatever and need someone for translation, send me a mssg to kontrabasnik(at)gmail(dot)com, shouldn't be a problem for me

Kirn
Hi Sjo, my advise will be to use Elton/Prim service too However you could find very skilful watchmaker I would highly recommend you to ask for the best servise you can get and it is to ask directly in the Plant. Ref to the watch chosen by you, your choice is right. This typ is definitely well worth for the restoration.

sjo
Well I can't believe it is almost 3 years since I made this post. A lot has changed for me since then and I am now living back in the UK. One things that has not changed though is that I still have my Prim I and it is still not in great condition. I have contracted Elton and they have provided an estimate for a complete restoration. I know they will do a great job but it looks really quie expensive (the CZK is of course much stronger against the GBP these days). So I am wondering if it would be better for me to try to buy a restored I Gen rather than to get mine restored. Would any of you have an idea how much a fully restored model would be sold for? Also if that is a better option is there a Wanted to Buy part of the forum? Many thanks again Steve Hello, Firstly I would like to introduce myself and apologise for my lack of expertise in the Czech language. Guest Kamil
.... Would any of you have an idea how much a fully restored model would be sold for? Here you have few Prim SportI sold after renovation: 7500 7500 8750 8800 9800
Tillman
I wouldn't renovate it it's just not worth it. You can buy a better quality automatic watch for the same money. Prim is just overpriced. As a collector I don't consider the renovated watches to be original. They are more a tribute watch or a copy.
